Seeing "Meta permissions needed" in your Motion reports? That's your reporting connection. See I'm getting a "Meta permissions needed" error. Launching uses its own Meta sign in, in Runneth Permissions, so reconnecting for reports won't turn launching on.
Once your creative is approved, Runneth can take it the rest of the way into Meta. Ask in plain language, review a short launch plan, say yes, and Runneth creates the ads in your ad account.
Note: New ads always go in paused, so nothing runs or spends until you turn it on.
Launching comes with every Runneth account as part of the Name and Launch Meta Ads workstream, so there's nothing to install. You just need to connect Meta once using the steps below.
Before you start
A few things to double check:
You're an Owner or Admin in Motion. Only Owners and Admins can connect Meta for launching. Once it's set up, your teammates can use it too.
Your ad account is connected to a Motion workspace. See Connecting a new data source in Motion.
You have a Meta profile with the right access. It needs access to the ad accounts you want to launch into, plus the Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts your ads run from.
Step 1: Connect Meta for launching
Open your settings.
If you're in the Runneth app, click your organization name in the top left and choose Settings.
In Motion, open the menu at the bottom left and choose Account settings.
Under Organization, select Runneth Permissions.
Under Launch ads, click Sign in on the Meta row and sign in with the Meta profile from "Before you start." Once you're connected, the row shows the profile you signed in with.
This is one shared connection for your whole organization, so your teammates don't need to sign in themselves.
Step 2: Choose which ad accounts Runneth can launch into
On the same page, click Add next to Enabled ad accounts.
Select the ad accounts you want Runneth to launch into, then click Add.
Runneth can only launch into the ad accounts listed here. If an account says your profile is missing access to this ad account, give that Meta profile access to the ad account in Meta first, or switch to a profile that has it (click the three dots on the Meta row, then Change profile).
What can Runneth do?
Runneth only works in the ad accounts you've enabled, and it always asks before it changes anything.
Runneth can | Runneth can't (yet) |
Launch new image and video ads into a new ad set copied from one you already run, or into an existing ad set | Create new campaigns |
Pause, turn on, rename and edit live ads (primary text, headline, link or URL tags) | Launch partnership ads |
Name new ads with your naming convention | Launch catalog (product set) ads |
Write copy in the format of your live ads, or use your own copy for each ad or the whole batch | Delete ads |
Reuse your last launch settings, like the link, URL tags, Page and Instagram account | Launch into ad accounts that aren't under Enabled ad accounts |
ā ļø Runneth always asks first. Every launch starts with a short plan showing exactly what Runneth will create in Meta. Nothing is created until someone on your team says yes, and every new ad goes in paused, so nothing runs or spends until you turn it on. Once a launch starts, it runs to the end. Runneth can rename ads afterwards, but it doesn't delete ads, so remove any you don't want in Ads Manager.
Step 3: Launch your first ads
In a Runneth chat, tell Runneth what to launch and where.
For example: "Launch these 3 videos in our testing campaign."
Runneth checks your launch access first. If a step is missing, it tells you exactly what to fix.
Runneth shows you the launch plan: the campaign, the ad set and its budget, each ad with its name and copy, and the Page and Instagram account. Check that it's the right ad account (especially if your organization has several workspaces), then reply yes. If Runneth copies one of your ad sets, the copy can leave out a few settings, like interests or some placements. Runneth lists each one in the plan before you say yes, so you can add it back in Ads Manager.
Runneth creates the ads, paused, and sends you links to them in Ads Manager. Check them there and turn them on when you're ready. If Runneth made a new ad set, turn that on too. New ad sets also start paused.
š” Tip: Want Runneth to turn ads on for you? Say "Offer to turn ads on once they're launched." After each launch, Runneth asks whether to turn the new ads on, and only does it after your yes.
Sample prompts
"Launch these 3 videos in our testing campaign."
"Put these 2 videos in our catch all ad set."
"Same as last time."
"Show me the ads over our CPA target and pause the ones I pick."
"Name these creatives."
"What can you do with launching?"
How do I remove launch access?
Go to Settings > Runneth Permissions:
To stop Runneth launching into one ad account, click the three dots next to it under Enabled ad accounts and choose Remove access.
To turn off launching completely, click the three dots on the Meta row and choose Disconnect.
Your reporting connection is separate, so removing launch access doesn't change your Motion reports.
FAQs
Can Runneth launch on TikTok or other platforms?
Not right now. Launching is available for Meta ads only.
Who on my team can ask Runneth to launch?
Once an Owner or Admin connects Meta and enables ad accounts, any teammate who isn't a Guest can ask Runneth to launch into those accounts. Guests can't use Runneth. See What's the difference between an Owner, Admin, Collaborator, and Guest?
Will Runneth spend money without asking?
No. Runneth only creates ads after you approve the plan, every new ad goes in paused, and Runneth only turns ads on after a yes to those exact ads.
How many ads can I launch at once?
Up to 50 ads per launch plan. Runneth splits bigger batches into several plans.
Does Runneth resize my videos for different placements?
No. Runneth doesn't crop or resize. For now, a single 9:16 video only shows in Stories and Reels. To show it in Feed too, send a 4:5 or 1:1 version as well, and Runneth puts both in the same ad.
Are Meta's creative enhancements turned on?
No. New ads go in with Meta's creative enhancements off. Turn them on in Ads Manager if you want them.
My launch is still running. What do I do?
Launches with video can take a while and keep running in the background. Ask Runneth "did my launch finish?" to get an update.
Will adding ads to an existing ad set affect it?
The ad set's budget and settings stay as they are, but adding new ads can restart its learning phase. Runneth flags this in the launch plan.
My reports work, so why can't Runneth launch?
Launching uses its own Meta sign in, separate from the connection that powers your reports. Reconnecting for reports won't fix it. Follow Steps 1 & 2 above.
Runneth says my Meta profile can't use a Page.
The profile you signed in with needs permission to advertise on that Page in Meta. Once it has that, go to Runneth Permissions, click the three dots on the Meta row, choose Change profile, and sign in again. See I'm seeing a "Page Permissions needed" error.
Runneth says it can't sign in to Meta for launching.
This usually means no one has connected Meta for launching yet. An Owner or Admin needs to complete Step 1 and Step 2 above. If you've done both and still see this message, reach out to the Motion team and we'll take a look.
What if I see a permissions error?
Still need help?
