Building your first report in Motion

Learn how to build, customize, and analyze a Top performing report to identify your winning creatives and campaigns.

Creating a new report

  1. Click the Create Report button in the top left corner

  2. Select Top Performing from the report options

  3. Configure your report settings using the three main components:

1. Date range selection

Select the time period for analyzing ad performance:

  • Choose from presets (e.g., Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, etc.)

  • Use Last... Days for custom day ranges

  • Select specific dates using the date picker

2. Performance filters

Filter your data to focus on specific campaigns and performance criteria:

  • Naming convention filters

    • Filter by strategy, campaign type, or custom naming patterns

    • Example: Filter for "Evergreen" campaigns or "Performance Marketing" initiatives

  • Performance metric filters

    • Set minimum thresholds for key metrics

    • Example: Spend > $1,000 AND ROAS > 2.0

    • Non-qualifying ads are automatically excluded

3. Grouping options

Choose how to aggregate and display your data:

  • Creative - Aggregates performance across all ads using the same creative ID

  • Ad Name - Shows individual ad performance

  • Copy - Groups by ad copy variations

  • Headline - Groups by headline variations

  • Landing Page - Groups by destination URL


Customizing your report view

Table settings

  1. Click Table Settings to customize metrics

  2. Add, remove, or rearrange columns using the metric selector

  3. Access custom conversion events at the bottom of the metrics list

  4. Save your configuration as a preset for future use

Display options

Choose from three visualization modes:

  • Line Chart - Review performance trends over time, including Creative fatigue

  • Bar Chart - Compare performance across assets

  • Tile View - Display creative thumbnails with up to 6 metrics

Tip: In Tile View, drag and drop metrics to reorder them according to priority.


Saving and sharing reports

Save your report

  1. Click the save button

  2. Enter a descriptive name

  3. Add an emoji for visual reference (optional)

  4. Reports are automatically accessible to all team members in your account

Share with external team members

  1. Click Share report

  2. Create a snapshot ("carbon copy" of the current report)

  3. Add a description

  4. Share the URL with anyone, regardless of Motion access

Automatic creative tags

Motion's AI automatically tags your creatives across multiple dimensions:

  • Asset Type

  • Visual Format

  • Intended Audience

  • Messaging Angle

  • Seasonality

  • Offer Type

  • Hook Tactic

  • Headline Tactic

Use cases:

  • Identify patterns in winning creatives

  • Assess creative diversity for Andromeda optimization

  • Gain insights into how Meta's AI categorizes your content

AI analysis

Click Analyze this report to generate automated insights:

  • Analysis of top two performance metrics

  • Identification of what's working vs. underperforming

  • Actionable recommendations for optimization

  • Results delivered to your Motion Inbox

Deep dive analysis

Access detailed insights by clicking on any creative:

AI tasks

  • Click on Creative insights for AI-generated tips on each creative

Performance Tab Features

  • Video analysis - Audience retention graphs for video content

  • Placement breakdown - Performance variations across ad placements

  • Demographics - Gender and age performance breakdowns


Best practices

  1. Build a report library - Create saved reports for recurring analysis needs (weekly, monthly reviews)

  2. Use consistent filters - Maintain standard performance thresholds across reports

  3. Monitor creative diversity - Aim for variety in AI tags to optimize for Andromeda

  4. Regular analysis - Schedule routine report reviews to identify emerging trends
