Why is a brand I follow missing ads in Inspo?

Why a followed brand shows no ads in Inspo or Brand Intel, or fewer ads than Meta's Ad Library, and what to check.

Written by Joel Charboneau

Following a brand in Inspo but seeing no ads, a message like "This brand hasn't launched ads since…", or way fewer ads than Meta's Ad Library? Here's why that happens and what to check.

Good to know: Inspo pulls ads from Meta's public Ad Library. Your connected ad accounts and Facebook permissions don't affect it, so there's no need to reconnect anything.

Why Inspo won't match Meta's Ad Library exactly

Motion and Meta count ads differently, so a lower number in Motion is normal.

  • Motion groups copies of the same ad. Meta counts every copy of an ad as its own active ad, like the same video running in different languages, countries or placements. Motion groups those copies and counts them once. If a brand runs 10 copies of one video, Meta shows 10 active ads and Motion shows 1.

  • Catalog ads aren't included. Inspo doesn't save dynamic product ads (catalog ads that pull products straight from a product feed). Brands that run lots of catalog ads will show far fewer ads in Motion.

  • Motion updates about once a day. Meta's Ad Library updates constantly, while Motion checks for new ads once a day at most. Brand new ads can take a day or so to show up.

  • Age and location restricted ads can't be pulled. Motion reads the Ad Library while logged out, so it can't see ads that ask you to confirm your age or location.

What to check

Make sure you're following the right page

This is the most common cause. Lots of brands run their ads from one main Facebook page and have separate pages for local stores, clinics or countries. If you follow a page that doesn't run ads, Inspo shows none, or says "This brand hasn't launched ads since…"

  • Open the brand's ads in Meta's Ad Library and copy the link.

  • Paste it into the search bar at the top of Discover, open the brand that comes up, and hit Follow.

  • If nothing comes up, scroll down, select Add a missing brand, and paste the link there.

Tip: Searching by name can bring up several pages with similar names, or miss the one you want. Pasting the Ad Library link takes you to the exact page.

Give new brands time to load

If you just followed or added a brand and its page says it's still collecting ads, give it a day or two to fill in, then refresh.

Check for age or location restrictions

  • Open the brand's Meta Ad Library link in a private or incognito window.

  • If you see an age or location restriction notice, those ads can't be pulled into Inspo automatically. You can still save them one at a time with the Motion Chrome extension (see below).

Workaround: Save restricted ads with the Motion Chrome extension

If a brand's ads are age or location restricted, you can save them to your workspace by hand with the Motion Chrome extension. Because you're logged into Facebook in your browser, the extension can see ads that Motion can't pull in on its own.

How it works

With the extension installed, browse a brand's ads in Meta's Ad Library and save any ad straight into your Motion workspace in one click. Saved ads show up in your Inspo boards, where you can organize and share them with your team.

Note: The extension saves one ad at a time. It doesn't import all of a brand's ads at once.

Getting started

Download the extension from the Chrome Web Store. For a quick overview, check out this walkthrough.
